In the last few decades, the nation-state and, of course, its legal system have faced the great challenge of globalization. In this context, almost every legal issue can have international or transnational consequences.

The BILGI Faculty of Law has a distinctive approach to legal education. In its curriculum, the Faculty presents a list of core legal courses through which students may gain the basic knowledge about the structure and substance of law.

These courses include Civil Law, Criminal Law, Commercial Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Public International Law and Theory of State. In parallel with these traditional legal courses, a variety of elective courses are also included in the curriculum, i.e. Human Rights Law, European Union Institutions, Harmonization in European Law, Internet Law, International Organizations Law, International Environmental Law, Capital Markets Law and Competition Law. Furthermore, a Legal Clinic course, which aims to practice the basic legal skills through real legal cases, was also constructed under the above-mentioned parameters.

The Faculty of Law stresses the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in legal education as one of its distinguishing characteristics.

Documents Required for Application

1) International Student Application Form (you can ask by fax or e-mail)
2) Proof photocopy of High School Diploma (with official transcript)
(If you are graduated from a foreign high School you have to take equivalence of the diploma from the Ministry of Education)
3) Record of scores for one of the following English language tests (if available)

• Officiellt TOEFL 520 PBT, 190 CBT, 68 IBT
• IELTS Academic Score 6.0 Band
• BELT (BILGI English Language Test) 85
• Institutional TOEFL 520
• TOEFL TWE 4

4) Proof photocopy of the applicant's passport
5) 2 photographs
6) Proof photocopy of Record of score YOS examination* (please read the inscription below) or other examinations

For non-Turkish students who are about to graduate from high school in a foreign country and want to start an undergraduate degree: You must apply to YOS which is a selection, testing and placement exam for foreign students.

In order to take this exam, you have to get an application form and a guide of OSYM - YOS 2008 by mail or you can contact the nearest Turkish Consulate in your country for detail information about the exam. If you would like to apply by mail please write to; ''OSYM -YOS, 06538 Bilkent - Ankara TURKEY".

You must complete the Application Form and send to OSYM -YOS with the proof of examination fee payment. For detailed information, please visit: www.osym.gov.tr.

Note: If you do not take the exam or you already missed the dates, you have other alternatives like;

REQUIRED EXAM RESULTS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS;

If an international student cannot take the YOS Exam for any reason or does not score the required 40 points on the Basic Learning Skills portion of the examination she/he may submit one of the following exams for admission:

* SAT 1 (Scholastic Aptitude Test) with a minimum of 1000 points
* ACT (National College Admission Examination) with a minimum of 21 points
* Abitur
* Matura
* International Baccalaureate (IB)
* GCE A Level Certificate with a minimum of 2 courses
* French Baccalaureate
* Tawjihi Examination Held in Jordan and Palestine with a minimum of 70 points
* Baccalaureate Examination held in Lebanon with a 50 points
* Al Shahada-Al Thanawiyya (Baccalaureate) Examination held in Syria with a minimum 170 points in sciencetifc stream and 25 points in language
* Gaokao held in The People's Republic of China with a minimum of 450 points.
* Diploma Debirestan with a minimum of 15/20 points and Pisdanesgahi with minmum of 15/20 points held in Iran

Students at BILGI participate in numerous extracurricular activities, including various student clubs and sports. They are also engaged in University governance via the Student Union. The university provides emergency medical and psychological counseling services free of charge. The "Online Education System" provides students online access to course materials, messages and evaluations from their instructors at their personal computers. BILGI campuses are equipped to provide for all the academic and extracurricular needs of students, including conference halls, libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities with a semi-Olympic size indoor swimming pool as well as a fitness center and a basketball court.

Tuition Fees for undergraduate programs are 14,000 USD per academic year.

Istanbul BILGI University was founded in 1996 as a private, non-profit institution. With over 10,000 students and a faculty of 600, BILGI offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the social sciences, economics, business, communications, the arts and law. The language of instruction, except in the Faculty of Law, is English. BILGI is a city university with 3 innovative campuses located in central city neighborhoods, offering easy access to the social and cultural activities in Istanbul.

Academic Programs

Istanbul BILGI University offers 31 undergraduate programs, 26 master’s programs and 2 doctoral programs. BILGI places great importance on the internationalization of its programs, student body and faculty. It offers joint degrees and maintains exchange programs with numerous universities in Europe and North America. BILGI takes parts in the Erasmus program, the student and faculty exchange program of the European Union. In addition to offering a wide array of courses in English for international exchange students during the academic year and BILGI organizes summer programs for international students at BILGI campuses.
