Master's Programme in Changing Education
Changing Education is a two-year full-time international English-language master’s programme. The Faculty of Educational Sciences at University of Helsinki is well known for its expertise in studies on social justice and diversity in education, including sociological, cultural, psychological, philosophic, gender studies perspectives, as well as the use of educational psychology and neuroscientific insights. The Master’s programme in Changing Education is structured around three main areas: 1) Social Justice, Anti-racism, Equity, and Inclusivity 2) Educational Psychology and Neuroscience, and 3) Educational Institutions and Policy. The content of these areas is combined in a well-structured curriculum, which is meant to meet our students’ diverse interests.
The programme offers research-based studies connecting theory with practice for future experts and change makers in education. Students in the programme, are offered multidisciplinary, and innovative perspectives, knowledge, and skills to analyze, develop, and influence the practices and structures of education systems, institutions, teaching, and pedagogy. A variety of courses are available, which address current themes in education at various levels of schooling.
As a graduate of this programme, you will be able to:
- Understand and apply the critical evaluation of topics independently, as well as in co-operation with others
- Critically and analytically evaluate and reflect on the constantly changing nature of education and society
- Work ethically towards more socially just and anti-racist educational policies and systems
- Use methods from basic neuroscience and educational psychology to improve teaching and learning
