Waiters and waitresses are the heart of the customer service at the restaurants. They are responsible for welcoming the customers, and for the customer service and sales work in a restaurant. The waiters/waitresses, together with other employees, take care of customer satisfaction, the comfort and cleanliness of the customer premises, and the sales of food and beverages. They also manage the cash register functions and different serving methods according to the business idea of the restaurant.
Waiters/waitresses work in many different types of restaurants. Jobs are provided by cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs, nightclubs, fast food restaurants, banquets, hotels, staff restaurants, transport stations and catering companies.
Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services provides diverse skills for cooking, serving, sales and customer service roles. The vocational qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services (180 competence points) has one competence area and qualification title:
- competence area of customer service (waiter/waitress)
The students may specialize in serving. The preliminary selection of the competence area will be done in the application document.
Studying in multicultural groups, attending in the international student exchanges and project will prepare students for the international tasks at the restaurant field. In this program, you can learn more Finnish if needed, or focus on foreign languages. It is also possible to prepare for the national matriculation examination during the studies and combine the general upper secondary education with this. Requirements for student selection: basic education certificate, good command in English and basic level in Finnish (A1.3.) and interest in the study field. This course is mainly targetted at the applicants of EU or people living in Finland. All eligible applicants will be interviewed.
