Master's Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering

The joint mechanical engineering studies in the programme give students skills in modern digitalised manufacturing, design, and management. The courses in digital design and optimisation deepen the students’ knowledge and skills in digital design tools, analysis and simulation tools, product optimisation, and industrial metrology. The students get professional experience from the industrial environment in master’s thesis and project work. Students learn communications skills in writing reports, oral presentations of their results, and information retrieval. The free elective courses enable students to focus on the topics of their interest in relevant fields like robotics, data analysis, and numerical analysis.

The Digital Design specialisation track

trains professionals with theoretical understanding and practical tools in designing, analysing, and optimising products, structures, and systems.

After the Digital Design studies, the students will be able to simulate advanced thermomechanical problems with FEM, work with modern digital design tools like Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing software, optimise product designs using the structure and topology optimisation tools, analyse products with reverse engineering methodologies, and industrial metrology tools. The students can recognise opportunities in an industrial framework for applying the learned skills and tools and motivate their use. Students can read engineering reports, communicate their results in written reports and oral presentations and motivate and vision the benefits of implementing digital design methodologies in the industry.

The Digital Manufacturing specialisation track

trains professionals with through theoretical understanding and practical skills in the next generation 3D printing or digital manufacturing technologies along with various traditional manufacturing technologies.

Digital manufacturing (also termed as 3D printing or Additive Manufacturing (AM)) is considered as one of the key pillars in creating a sustainable and digital industrial era through the ongoing industrial revolution, Industry 4.0 along with Big Data and Internet of Things. Industries around the globe are thriving for maturing various digital manufacturing technologies and are facing a serious deficiency of skilled engineering trained in such a highly demanding field. Therefore, this track is designed to educate and train the students in the field of digital manufacturing/3D printing/AM so that they are ready to solve the challenges the industries are facing.

The Smart Systems specialisation track

provides advanced training in smart technologies and enables professionals to deal with the challenges and opportunities of modern industry.

A smart system makes use of artificial intelligence algorithms and control technology to integrate sensors and actuators so that devices can operate autonomously and intelligently. It should therefore be able to make reasonable predictions about the expected results of its own actions, adapt to operational changes, and learn from experience.

In order to meet the current demands of modern industry, the Smart Systems track gives access to courses in robotics, machine learning, intelligent control, digital factory, systems engineering, and modeling, among others. This interdisciplinary approach offers you a wide range of cutting-edge knowledge in smart technologies and helps you step through the doors of the fourth industrial revolution.
