Photonics, Master of Science (Physics)
MDP in Photonics is a two year full time study program. Master's degree consists of 120 ECTS of studies in one main subject, photonics.
Degree structure
- Courses and laboratory practices 90 ECTS
- Master's thesis 30 ECTS
Total 120 ECTS
- Studies consist of the following modules:
General studies form the basis for the further studies. - Core courses provide the fundamental basis for light and light-matter interaction.
- Laboratory practices contain a large amount of practical working in photonics.
- Waves and scattering consist of advanced topics on modern light propagation and scattering.
- Light and Matter inspect the light-matter interaction at microscopic level.
- Displays, Colors, and Applications introduce some special topics on optics.
- Master's thesis* is your own large project.
*Master's thesis in Photonics (30 ECTS): Generally, M.Sc. thesis in photonics consists of theoretical calculations, empirical experiments and a review of related literature. However, it is possible to write a fully theoretical thesis. The M.Sc. thesis aims to provide students a deep understanding of a certain experimental or theoretical method-, and familiarizes themselves with finding the relevant literature and establishing an independent scientific work.
