Master's Programme in Intercultural Encounters

Do you want to study the role of religion in intercultural relationships? Are you interested in Indigenous perspectives or transnational identities? Do you want to promote cultural diversity in a globalised world? Would you like to be more competent in intercultural communication?      

The Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters (ICE) is a genuinely interdisciplinary programme where you can enhance your thinking and develop your expertise in cultural understanding. In addition, the programme gives you tools to succeed in internationally oriented professional life. Upon completing the programme, you will be able to act and grow in multidisciplinary and multicultural groups, and deal with issues related to intercultural interaction, diversity, internationalisation, the media, and power.     

Depending on your choice, the Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters will lead to a Master of Arts (Humanities track) degree or a Master of Theology (Theology track) degree. You will choose your target degree when you apply to the programme. Students studying towards the Master of Arts degree specialise in two of the following thematic modules: Religion and Diversity; Knowledge, Decolonisation and Change; Communication and Media; and Global Transfers. If you choose to complete the Master of Theology degree, you will specialise in the thematic module Religion and Diversity.     

The aim of the Master’s Programme in Intercultural Encounters is to give students an appreciation of the many facets of intercultural contact. You will acquire theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to examine complex social and cultural phenomena in different kinds of intercultural encounters. You will gain a profound understanding of how everyday local life is connected to international, multicultural, and transnational issues. You will learn to communicate in and evaluate information on intercultural encounters.
